J-Canine Pet Resort is owned and managed by president, Joni Huff, who has over 30 years of experience in the pet care industry, having been involved in training and caring for animals for much of her life.  During this time, she earned numerous AKC dog obedience titles on different breeds.  As well as having trained and competed with her own dogs, she has instructed private and group obedience lessons, trained dogs for clients, managed a boarding facility, and groomed various breeds.  Joni has also been actively involved with rescue for the past 20 years.  She has fostered many homeless pets in her home for many different breed, all breed, and cat rescue  organizations.  Joni lives with quite a few critters, including her horses, Dobermans, and Heelers.  She also loves her orange kitties!

Liz is a manager at J-Canine Pet Resort and has worked with Joni since before we opened.  She works primarily at the front desk, but you'll find her working closely with the dogs, too.  She grew up in Rosenberg and went to school at Sam Houston and the University of Houston.  Liz actively competes in agility with her Australian Shepherds, Bert & Hop and serves as the secretary for over a dozen agility trials a year throughout the country.  She also has a 16 year old son who enjoys animals as much as she does and who also loves working at J-Canine!

Melinda is our other manager and has been with J-Canine since June of 2008.  Before then, she went to college at Texas Tech in Lubbock and worked at a different kennel before discovering J-Canine.  In addition to working the front desk, you will also find her in the back playing kennel technician.  She loves her large breed dogs, and currently has a Mastiff and a black lab.  In her spare time, she enjoys leatherworking, shooting sporting clays and skeet and anything that involves being outdoors.
Martine Kopka, CPDT-KA is the Training Coordinator at J-Canine and enjoys helping people better understand their pets by teaching modern, positive-based reinforcement training techniques.  Her lifelong interest in animal behavior & training became a passion when she adopted Henry, a deaf and vision-impaired Catahoula Leopard Dog in 2004 and began teaching him sign language. Her own pets became the driving force for her to join J-Canine’s program in 2007 where she currently teaches Puppy Head Start Class, Basic Pet Obedience, foundation classes for Performance dogs, as well as Intermediate and Advanced Agility classes.  Learn more about her, her dogs, and our programs on our Agility page.
Yoselin has worked at J-Canine since 2011, when she started right after high school.  A friend who was working here told her it was the best job around and she hasn't looked back!  In 2017, she attending grooming school and has been our full-time groomer ever since!   Yoselin is a writer and loves reading and creating stories.  She also loves to exercise so she enjoys the pace here at J-Canine!  She has three dogs (Gordo, Copper, and Julie) and three black cats at home.
Melissa jointed the J-Canine team in May of 2018.  She brings lots of experience working with animals - she started volunteering at the animal shelter when she turned 18 and has worked at pet facilities ever since.  She currently has 5 dogs, including German Shepherd Dante (pictured) and has always had dogs, cats, birds and even pet ducks!  All of her dogs are very lucky rescues! In her spare time, Melissa likes to go to the movies and spend time with her dogs - either at the park or cuddling at home!

In Memory: Gilbert spent 11 years with us - taking care of the horses, the landscaping, and every person in this building.  He had the biggest heart and we were lucky to have known him for so long.  Gilbert lost his battle with cancer in March of 2019, but his spirit is still here with all of us - we have no doubt that he's still watching out for all of us!
